2021 Annual Report

We had another outstanding year in 2021, marking new highs for covered payroll, premiums collected, and contributions to Member Distribution Payable for the fund!

At TBG, we continued to work remotely, which turned out to be an opportunity to remodel our offices without any interruptions to our work or services. Like everyone else, we experienced material issues and worker shortages, but the project should be completed by June. If you are in the area, stop by and take a tour of the changes, as I am sure you will be impressed.

TBG is proud to be celebrating 25 years in business! In 1997, a group of concerned tradespeople determined that if the right people got together and acted responsibly, they could overcome the high cost of workers’ comp in the trades. Today, as we plan the celebration of 25 years and we have achieved what they envisioned – a financially stable fund for the construction industry! Thanks to all of you for making this possible!

Ben Edwards

Director

Edwards/LaPlant Construction was established in 1957 by Lloyd LaPlant. Since that time the company has been passed down and is now on its third generation, currently owned by Ben Edwards. Edwards/LaPlant Construction is one of the most respected contractors in the Grand Rapids area by delivering quality products, dependable service and, most of all, highly trained and dedicated employees.

After graduating from UMD with a degree in Organizational Management, Edwards took over the construction company from his father in 2006 with the goal of growing it into one of the leading construction businesses in Itasca County. Edwards LaPlant Construction has been a member of the MN Builders association for 27 years, and Benjamin has served on the MN Builders Association board since 2007. Benjamin was BAM’s MN Builder of the Year in 2019. Benjamin’s knowledge, passion, and business skills have made him excel in the construction industry and other commercial real-estate businesses that he is a part of. Benjamin has a passion for growing the industry for generations and seeks out those passionate about growing within the industry.

JOHN LLOYD

Secretary

John Lloyd is a founder of Lloyd’s Construction Services and currently holds the position of Vice President. Since 1983, Lloyd’s has provided demolition, excavation, and waste management services across the Midwest. Now, as a third-generation family business, Lloyd’s continues to grow and adapt to an ever-changing industry, with safety and family always at the forefront of all they do. Over the years, John has served on several industry association boards for local and national trade groups. As a member of TBG since 2006, he looks forward to bringing his expertise to the TBG Board of Directors as Secretary. John values practical thinking and real-life contractor experience to help all members receive the best possible return on investment with TBG.
